Abstract

In the wake of protests and political revolutions in Thailand, the Philippines, Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, the United States, Mexico, France, England, Italy, and Greece, crowds have spoken in the voice and idiom of a transnational language of democracy; and yet, this appearance of speaking can no longer be understood in the terms of communicative action, because it has entered into a specular arena in a manner that severs that which can be seen from that which can be heard. In ten theses, Morris responds to the pressing question: How can we understand this metamorphosis in the long history of a relation between media and politics?
